We participated in a national Aveda contest. Although we did not win we are proud to announce that we placed 5th in North America!
Fashion Week Fall 2012 and Fall 2009
Michael Frear, owner of The Chair Salon, and haircutting educator Laura Leverty, were selected to work with the Aveda team for Fashion Week 2012 in NYC.
Michael collaborated with the team for Marc Bouwer and Irina Shabayeva, both of whom were on the 2009 season of "Project Runway." Marc was a guest judge and Irina was a design contestant. It was an amazing learning experience and Michael hopes to participate at the event again soon.
Laura worked at Fashion Week for several designers including Badgley Mischka (with Peter Gray), Anna Francesca, Tibi, and, perhaps her most memorable, Betsy Johnson, alongside Aveda's Jon Reymon.
She plans on returning for another whirlwind experience in 2013!
Aliveness Project Food Drive December 2012
Our Holiday food drive raised 208 pounds of food for the Food Shelf Program.
The mission of The Aliveness Project is to encourage self-empowerment and provide direct services for persons living wiht HIV/AIDS.
Chair Volunteers for Homeless Connect December 2012
Recently the staff at The Chair volunteered their services for Project Homeless Connect. Twice each year, Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis partner with service providers, businesses, citizens, and faith congregations to bring multiple resources to one central location where people can come to access the services they need. It was estimated that over 550 haircuts were given!
City Pages Votes The Chair
for Best Hair Cut
Spring, 2011
Getting a haircut often walks the line between a transformative and traumatizing
experience. If a stylist isn't skilled at cutting your type of hair, results
can be disastrous: bad bangs, flat styling, and weird sections that take forever
to grow out. However, if a stylist is skilled in navigating scissors through
the landmine of your mane, the final look can be invigorating, marking a new
era in which you're free from wrath-invoking day-to-day bad hair.
The Chair is
a neighborhood salon where any fears that you are playing Russian roulette with
your hair will be assuaged by the professional and skilled staff. The environment
is unpretentious, and the decor—plush rugs, rustic floors, antique mirrors—is
downright cozy. Even better: Haircuts at this salon won't set you back too much,
which is great if you're planning on updating your wardrobe as well. View

The Chair Salon Participates
in Race for the Cure to
Help Raise Funds for
Breast Cancer
Research
Spring, 2010
Hello All! Thank you for supporting us in the Race for the Cure. Our team (Shers Pair) raised
almost $1,000. The walk was last Sunday on Mother's Day around the Mall of America.
It was a beautifully sunny day, great for a walk. It was so inspiring to see
46,000 people all there to support this one cause. According to Twin Cities Race
for the Cure, participants raised 2.5 million dollars, 75 percent of which stays
in Minnesota to help with education and screenings. The other 25 percent goes
toward breast cancer research.
Next year we plan to walk with mom and she will be sporting the super swanky
pink survivor shirt. Thank you again for supporting our family during my moms
fight. Don't forget to check your boobies or remind someone you love.
Take care,
Laura Leverty
